STUDIO GRINDING | Dope Unit Volume Two
Y'all remember Dope Unit mixtape volume one? Yeah, I did an
impromptu freestyle skit for the compilation because I was notified late about
getting a spot on the project. Well, no more improvisation - I have been
working in the studio with the Underground Music NG team for a couple of weeks
now.
Recorded two hiphop tracks for a sequel to the compilation
album (Dope Unit Volume Two). One is an uptempo tune (Something like Meek
Mill's 'I'ma Boss'), and I brought my homie Tha Rapman on board. The song
called 'Apprentice 2.0' also feature various talented artistes such as Tupengo,
Toni Code, K-Zed.
If you've listened to Lupe Fiasco's 'Old School Love' then
you should know what to expect on the second track. Toni Code and I teamed up
on a soulful hiphop beat and eventually made an inspirational song.
Surprisingly I sang on the hook. Utilizing my baritone voice alot these days.
One of the tracks I featured on (Apprentice 2.0) will be released online soon,
accompanied by a viral music video. Watch this space.

Afrobeat-themed EP in the Works!
Fela is one of the conscious artistes that influenced my musical direction. Apparently the King of Afrobeat is also inspiring my new project with Canadian based Nigerian producer, Teck-Zilla.
Working on a new EP which is yet to be titled, and it will include 6 great songs plus an instrumental track featuring a saxophonist. Apart from the likes of Khaligraph (Kenya), Dominant-1 (Malawi), The Holstar (Zambia) and Raiza Biza (Rwanda), whom all featured on Raw African Poetry 2.0 (a bonus track on the album), I have also collaborated with Tupengo on a song which will be featured on the project. Also expect vocals from soul/r n b artist, Itunu Pepper. Yeah, I also intend doing a song for the ladies. *winks*
This Afrobeat themed EP is going to be a reflection of my culture and my society at large. The topics are thought provoking - no joking! Teck-Zilla's hard-hitting Afrocentric beats is going to be a breathe of fresh air, production-wise. Experimenting with indigenous sounds this time around, and we will be showcasing skill and versatility.
There is no need to talk too much, in due time, people will figure it out. The music will speak for itself. Anticipate!

LYRICS: 'Kosoun Tun tun'
Check out the lyrics to 'Kosoun Tuntun' featuring Tupengo.
INTRO
Ise ti yato
It's your boy Fecko the Emcee
And I got Tupengo in the building
The movement is still moving
Yo, E-twinz wuddup?
Let's Go...Oshee!
CHORUS
Ko soun tuntun la be orun mo
E ma fi dudu pe funfun fun wa mo
Ko soun tuntun x3
Ko si oo
VERSE ONE
I salute ya, mo kinyi o
Got da green (dagrin) on my mind, I'ma C.E.O
I can't be messed with as you see me so
I mean as you see me so
Need a life jacket, heading for the mainstream
I flow like (the sea) DC no Washington
And I think global - destined to make it
No phones I can hear the world calling me
Lagos-bread lomo ole kpe mi agege
I rep Mushin the way Showkey rep A.J
Still Dat Ibo boy, nwanne ke ije
And I love ballin'...Jay Jay
REPEAT CHORUS
Dragons get scared when I spit fire
Forget greetings watch the boy go hi ya (higher)!
You can ask Tha Rapman, I've been there before
Dropped free-tapes, paid to perform and all
Now am set to roc nations...I'm on to the next one
Boyz are not smiling, me I don dey vex son
I gat game, I aint talking Nintendo
Who's rockin' your street? Fecko and Tupengo
Ask Isaac Newton, no be by force
To drop nkan. meji or meta force (metaphors)
But ofcourse, you know we're blessed with this
So I gotta get buzz like a swarm of bees
REPEAT CHORUS
BRIDGE
E si lawo, owo a lawo
Everybody wanna be part of it
The streets dictate what it is they' gonna play
Won ni Fecko o da, won ni ko ma gba
Ke gbe nu je
Tupengo upon this, you better mind your biz
When the street calls they come us
Won je fun arawon cos they know we hot
Boys are not smiling (2x)
VERSE 3
I gotta make hits before I make it?
Still keeping it real, man it's hard to fake it
Taking my skill to its maximum potential
Qualified artist! forget credentials
Who said emcees can't make good music?
Good emcees can make good music
Ask the cashier, I've paid my dues
So no use me play like soccer shoes
REPEAT CHORUS 2x
OUTRO

My Highlights of 2011
Here are some of the things I accomplished this year as an indie hip hop artist, which I’ll always remember…
Collabo With Tupengo
As an igbo boy who grew up in Lagos, I’ve always wanted to connect with the Yoruba-speaking audience through my music. I decided to hook up with Tupengo on a joint and I think we came up with something really nice. ‘Kosoun Tuntun’ is still getting mad love on the streets!
It can only get better in 2012...still putting in more work!
KevinNottingham Feature
It’s nice to know that African hip hop is now grabbing global attention, be it online or offline. So it was great to see my track 'Flow Global' featured on foremost international hiphop site, Kevin Nottingham!

The RapLogic EP
I can boldly say that I challenged myself with this 9-track EP produced by Teck-Zilla. Teck and I decided to break boundaries and reach out to the wider world with nothing else but real hiphop! The RapLogic EP featured talented MCs such as Mode9(Nigeria), TALoNTED(U.S.A), The Holstar of Zone Fam(Zambia), Synik (Zimbabwe), Fikrah Teule (Kenya). It's still available for free download on various blogs/sites online such as This Is Africa, 25 to Lyf, Ameyaw Debrah, Soundcity TV , Afro MP3 etc.
Flava fm (Zambia) Interview
Zambia’s like my second home even though I’m yet to visit the country. I guess it’s because I have a lotta friends and well-wishers over there. So it was a privilege for me to be interviewed by Tha Jayman via phone on Flava FM in Kitwe, Zambia. That was actually my first international radio interview.
BANS Nominated At The Headies
Word on the street has it that ‘Boys Are Not Smiling’ by Terry Tha Rapman is among the top 3 fastest-selling rap albums in Nigeria at the moment. So I’m happy I had a spot on the album, and even happier that it got nominated at The Headies 2011. No be beans!
HYPE Magazine Props!
Since 2005 I’ve been a huge fan of HYPE (SA’s No.1 hiphop mag). Also, I’ve been patiently waiting for the time I’d get featured in any of its publication. Apparently, that dream came through in 2011 when I stumbled on my name several times while reading the Freedom Day issue. That was such a big deal for me! *summersaults twice*

Studio Grindin'
After I dropped the single "Africa" in 2008 which featured Nigerian R&B singer Chrest, I haven't really recorded any other song with that type of musical progression. Anyway, that's about to change folks!....I've been working with E-twinz on a new single titled "Kosi Ohun Tuntun," which means"Nothing's new". And I got my homie Tupengo on the hook. It's most likely going to be a banger. However, I'll let the fans decide when it eventually drops. Also, Teck and I have been trying to wrap up the Afro-beat remix for "Raw African Poetry"...crazy sounds coming your way! Stay tuned!
